Old Fashioned Chai | Vegan-Gluten free | Christmas
Uppdaterat: 9 mars 2021
Hello my lovelies! Welcome to the final week of 5 weeks of Christmas. As this series comes to an end I wanted to share a few recipes related to cosy drinks fitting to the theme of this holiday and to start this week off let's enjoy a smooth, sweet and full of Christmas flavour Old Fashioned Chai. You can of course make a virgin version of this by not adding the bourbon simply add a bit more syrup.

What you need for Chai syrup:
2 1/2 dl (1 cup) water
4-6 tsp chai tea
5-6 tbsp maple syrup
1 vanilla bean
What you need for Chai old fashioned:
4 tbsp bourbon
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 dash grounded orange bitters
2-4 tbsp Chai tea syrup
What you need for serving:
Vegan milk
Cinnamon and star anise
In a pot add water and bring to a boil. Then take off the heat and add the Chai tea, (if you use leaves pop it in the pot with a tea strainer) maple syrup and sliced vanilla bean pop it into the water and cover with a lid for 15 minutes.
Bring to a boil on high heat for 5 minutes and take off the heat. Now that our Chai syrup is cooling let's get onto the next step.
In a cocktail shaker add bourbon, grounded orange bitters, lemon juice and 2 tbsp of the Chai syrup and shake until combined.
Strain into a glass and top off with vegan milk, garnish with star anise and cinnamon. I ended up foaming up some milk as well for that extra lovely milky finish.
