Rock candy pops | Gluten-free | Vegan
Hello my lovelies! Today we are going to do an experiment which also evolves into a treat. Oh yes you heard me right! These pops grow over a one week period and it's going to be a treat once their ready. My niece and cousin really enjoyed these!
What we need for the crystals:
1 litre water
Flavouring I am using bubblegum
What we need for assembly:
6 wooden sticks
6 mason jars (about 400 ml)
6 clothes pins
Side note: I did try reusing the syrup to make more rock candies but they didn't grow very much. Perhaps if you were to boil the syrup once more maybe that could work? I haven't tried that myself.
Begin with dipping the sticks into water and then coat them in sugar. Allow them to sit and dry for an hour.
In a pot add the water and bring it to a boil then add the sugar 1/10 each time and using a spoon stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Once the final sugar has dissolved let it simmer for another 5 minutes before you take it of the heat add the flavouring and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
Now the jars we are using need to be clean and not cold. Run some warm water on them if needed.
We will now divide the sugar into our prepared jars and stir in the food dye of your choice into each jar.
Next we need to balance the sticks into the jars, I am using a clothes pin for this. Leave a gap between the bottom of the jar and the stick as we want crystals to form around it.
The candies need to sit in the jars for about 6-7 days, you will notice each day that crystals begin to form.
Once they are ready gently lift the sticks out of the jars and set them over cup to drizzle off and set.
Now they are ready to enjoy!
